I. Adjectives and adverbs:

ADJ +LY = ADV

E.x: quick - quickly/ beautiful - beautifully/ happy -  happily.

Note: good – well/ Fast – Fast/ Hard – hard/  Late – late/  Early – early/ Far – far

* Lovely, lively, friendly, deadly, silly, ugly: adj

- Adj after To be/become/look/sound/taste/smell/feel/…, before N                                - Adv after ordinary verbs, before adj

EX: Tom is a good boy               

        I ride my bike slowly                   

       The room was badly painted       

II. Adj + That clause:

 S + be + Adjective + that – clause (S’ + V)

That clauses come after adjectives that refer to feelings or certainty: afraid, angry, bad, certain, disappointed, disappointing, glad, happy, graceful, helpful, important, lucky, pleased, possible, sad, sorry, sure, thankful, true, wrong …

                 Adj ending with ‘ed’ is used for people

                  Adj ending with ‘ing’ is used for things

E.g.: I’m disappointed that people have spoiled this area.

  3. Vietnamese’New year is known as Lunar New Year or Tet. It occurs in late January or early February. Vietnamese people usually make preparation for Tet holiday before serveral weeks. They clean and decrate homes, cook special food such as sticky rice cakes, and make fruit on the family altars. On the New Year’s Eve , the whole family gets together for the dinner which has many different kinds of food. On Tet, people usually put on their new clothes, and the Kids get a lot of “Lucky money”. 1. When does Tet occur? . 2. Do people make preparation before Tet? . 3. What do the people do on New year’s Eve? . 4. What do the Kids receive on New year’s Days ? . Electricity is the most common form of energy today. In the modern world, electricity is very available at the touch of a switch. Electricity has many uses. The most common use of electricity is providing artificial lighting. In factories, electricity is used to light up the work place. It is also used to operate air conditioners, computers and many other machines. Electricity is also used to power the many appliances that we have in our homes such as appliances include television sets, computers, electric fans, irons and many others. The list is simply endless. Modern man will most probably be lost without electricity. 1. What is the most common form of energy today? 2. What is the most common use of electricity? 3. What do people use electricity for at home? 4. How would our life be if there was no electricity? . In the United States, people celebrate Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday in May. On this occasion, mother usually receives greeting cards and gifts from her husband and children. The best gift of all for an American Mom is a day of leisure. The majority of American mothers have outside jobs as well as housework, so their working days are often very hard. Flower is an important part of Mother’s Day. Mothers are often given a plant for the occasion, particularly if they are elderly. Later in that day, it’s also traditional for the large family group to get together for dinner, either in a restaurant or in one of their home. Father’s Day is celebrated on the third Sunday in June. The holiday customs are similar to Mother’s Day. Dad also receives greeting cards and gifts from his family and enjoys a day of leisure. Questions: 1.
