- WEEK 5 Date of teaching: 11/10/2022 UNIT 3: WHAT DAY IS IT TODAY? Lesson 3 (1, 2, 3) STAGE 1: DESIRED OBJECTIVES/ OUTCOMES A. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. Use the words and pronounce the sounds of the letters ir, ur and er in the words first, Thursday and her respectively. 2. Listen and circle the correct words filling the gapped sentences. Then fill the gapped sentences and say them aloud. 3. Say the chant What do you do on ? B. LANGUAGE FOCUS - Sentence Patterns: Revision - Vocabulary: Revision C. INSTRUCTIONAL RESOURCES. - Textbook: Tiếng Anh 4, Student’s book page 22. - Track (Unit 1-page 22), - Word cards - A board, a computer and a projector. - STAGE 3: LEARNING EXPERIENCES/ LEARNING PLAN Warmer: Greeting and playing - Greet the students. - Get the class to play the game “Slap the board". - Tell Ss that they are going to saying the sentences with the correct pronunciation. Activity 1: Listening practice (Activity 1: Listen and repeat.) - Introduce the the sounds of the letters ir, ur and er in the words first, Thursday and her . - Ask pupils to look at the book and listen. - Play the recording for pupils to listen again and repeat. - Play it again to do choral repetition until they feel confident. - Call some pairs to practice in front of class. Other’s pupils to give comments. - Gives comments. - Correct mistakes of pronunciation. Activity 2: full controlled & less controlled Task 1: Listening practice (Listen and circle. Then write and say aloud.). - Tell pupils read 2 sentences and guess the suitable words to circle. - Play the recording for pupils to listen - Ask pupils to listen again and do the task - Play the recording again for pupils to listen and check. - Call some Ss to give the answer. - Give feedback. Task 2: Let’s chant. - Introduce the Chant What do you do on ? - Teacher reinforce their pronunciation - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen and follow in their books. - Play the recording again, pausing after each line for pupils to repeat. - Play the recording once more for pupils to repeat the whole chant. - Put the class into three groups to practice chanting: one chants the questions and the other chants the answers
- - Get them to practice chanting and doing actions in groups - Invite three groups to say the chant and do actions - Give feedback. - Ask the class to listen again and chant Activity 3: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (Say the sentences with the the sounds of the letters ir, ur and er in the words first, Thursday and her correct pronunciation). 2. Identify the situation for the conversation among Miss Hien and class (setting, participants, topics); 2. Ask and answer questions about dates, using the sentence patterns “What is the date today? It’s ...” 3.Show interests for dates of months,by using appropriate gestures and intonation when asking and answering.

- STAGE 3: LEARNING EXPERIENCES/ LEARNING PLAN Warmer: Greeting and watch a video about the greeting. - Greet the students. Then get the class to watch a video about dates of month from - Elecit dates of month which are mentioned in the video. - Tell students that they are going to read a dialogue in which students ask and answer questions about greeting lead students to the new lesson. Activity 1: Language input (Activity 1: Look, listen and repeat.) - Ask students to look at the four pictures (page 24) and answer questions to identify the situation for the conversation. 1. Who are they? (They are Miss Hien and class) 2. Where are they? (in their classroom) 3. What are they doing?( talking about dates of month.) - Tell students that they are going to listen a conversation among Hien and class - Play the recording, ask students to listen and repeat the dialogue - Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking. - Play the recording again for students to listen and repeat. - Elicit the sentence pattern: “What is the date today? It’s ....” and explain the meaning and the use. Activity 2: full Controlled & less controlled Task 1: Point and say - Use a calendar on Tivi to elicit 12 months and ordinal numbers. - Point to the first line and model the task with one student, using the expressions in the bubbles and the word under the picture. Teacher: “ What is the date today ? – Student: It’s the first of Octomber.”
- - Ask students to say the phrases chorally and individually. Repeat the same procedure with the rest of the pictures. - Ask students to practice in pairs, using the prompts in the bubbles and the pictures. - Call on some pairs to ask ans answer in front of the class and others give comments. Task 2: Guided practice (Activity 3:Further practice) * Play “ Rabbit and Turtle” game: - T shows the game on the screen.There are 8 sentences. - T guides ss to play the game: click on the rabbit or the turtle if you choose the correct answer, you will have one point. - Check their answer. Activity 3: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (asking and answering questions about the dates of the month and use the sentence pattern “What is the date today? It’s .” 2. What’re the core values of the lesson? (show identify the dates of the month.) - Remind students to do exercises in the workbook and to prepare for the next lesson (Unit 4, Lesson 1 P 3,4,5 on pages 25). D. - - Have Ss play game Slap the board. - Lead students to the new lesson. Activity 1: Language input (Activity 1: Listen and tick.) - Have Ss look at the pictures to identify the dates. - Tell pupils that they are going to listen and tick the correct pictures. - Ask them to look at the pictures to identify the different days of the week. - Get pupils to read aloud the days in English before playing the recording. - Play audio and have students look at the picture. - Ask pupils to listen to the recording and tick the correct pictures - Get them to swap their answers before checking as a class. Monitor the activity and offer help, if necessary. - T checks their answer. Activity 2: Controlled & guided practice Task 1: Controlled practice (Activity 2: Look and write.) - Have students turn to page 25. - Tell pupils that they are going to look at the calendar and fill the gaps. - Give them a few seconds to look at the calendar: focus pupils on the dates of the month. Then have pupils find appropriate words to complete the phrases. If necessary, get them to work in pairs. - Give them time to do the task independently. Go around and offer help, if necessary. - Get them to swap their answers before checking as a class. - Call some pupils to read aloud the complete sentences. Task 2: Guided practice (Activity 3: Let’s sing.) - Tell pupils that they are going to sing the song What is the date today? - Have them read each line of the lyrics. Check comprehension.
- - Play the recording all the way through. - Ask pupils to do choral and individual repetition of the song line by line. - When they are familiar with the tune, ask a group of four to the front of the class. Each of the pupils sings two lines of the song. - Have the class sing the song again and clap their hands to reinforce the activity. - Check students who are correct. Activity 3: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (listen, write and showing the completed sentences). 2. What’re the core values of the lesson? (show identify the dates of the month.) - Remind students to do exercises in the workbook and to prepare for the next lesson (Unit 4, Lesson 2 on pages 26). D.
