OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: 1. identify the situation for the conversation among Mai, Quan , Nam and the doctor (setting, participants, topics); 2. interview their friends about advice on problem health, using the sentence patterns “You shoul/ shoun’t.........Yes, i will/ No, I won’t ”; 3. show interests for each other’s health by using appropriate gestures and intonation when giving and responding advice on problem health. B. LANGUAGE FOCUS Vocabulary Go to the doctor, go to the dentist, take a rest, eat a lot of fruit, carry heavy things, eat a lot of sweets Key grammatical structure “You shoul/ shoun’t.........Yes, i will/ No, I won’t ”; C. Questions& answers STAGE 3: LEARNING EXPERIENCES/ LEARNING PLAN Warmer: Greeting and watching - Greet Ss. Then have the class sing the song What’s the matter with you? / Invite two groups to sing and mime the song. Activity 1: Look, listen and repeat.) - Ask students to look at the four pictures (page 6) and answer questions to identify the situation for the conversation. 1. Who are they? (They are Mai, Quan, Nam and the doctor) 2. Where are they? (in the gym, at consulting-room ) 3. What are they doing?( talking about advice on Tony’s problem health.) - Tell students that they are going to listen a conversation among Mai, Quan , Nam and the doctor - Play the recording, ask students to listen and repeat the dialogue - Do choral and individual repetition, pointing to the characters speaking. - Play the recording again for students to listen and repeat. - Elicit the sentence pattern : “You shoul/ shoun’t.........Yes, i will/ No, I won’t ”; and explain the meaning and the use.( You shoul/ shoun’t.........” is used to give advice on someone’s problem health. Yes, i will/ No, I won’t is used to respond to advice) Activity 2: full Controlled & less controlled Task 1: Point and say - Use pictures to elicit: Go to the doctor, go to the dentist, take a rest, eat a lot of fruit, carry heavy things, eat a lot of sweets. - Point to the first picture and model the task with one student, using the expressions in the bubbles and the word under the picture. Teacher: You should go to the doctor? Student: Yes, I will - Ask students to say the phrases chorally and individually. Repeat the same procedure with the rest of the pictures.
- - Ask students to practice in pairs, using the prompts in the bubbles and the pictures. - Call on some pairs to give advice and respond Task 2: Let’s talk - Show some pictures about situations: keep warm, eat too much chocolate, eat ice- cream, eat helthy foods - Have students talk about advice and respond using ““You shoul/ shoun’t.........Yes, i will/ No, I won’t ”; - Ask them to interview 3 or 4 friends: one student asks the question and the other answers with facts about themselves and then exchange the roles. - Monitor the activity and offer help if necessary. - Call on some groups of students to role-play in front of the class. Activity 3: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (talk about problem health and use the sentence pattern ““You shoul/ shoun’t.........Yes, i will/ No, I won’t to give advice and respond on other’s problem health) 2. Read and complete the gapped conversations, using the words provided. 4. Play the game Charades: What’s the matter with you? 5. - - Tell pupils that they are going to play Charades. - Revise the names of the body parts before starting the game. - Have the class play the game in groups of six. - Pupils in each group take turns to mime the illness while the others guess. - The quickest pupil to guess the illness correctly gets one point. - Set a time limit for them to play the game. - The groups which has the most points wins the game. Listen and circle the letters showing the correct words completing the answers. Then ask and answer the questions. 4. Say the chant: What’s the matter with you? 5. - performance answers STAGE 3: LEARNING EXPERIENCES/ LEARNING PLAN Warm up: Greeting and Role- play - Get pupils to give advice on health problems and responding - Lead into new lesson Activity 1: Listen and repeat - Tell the class that they are going to practice saying the question and answers which the correct intonation. - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen first. - Play the recording again for them to repeat the sentences twice - Ask pupils to read the sentences until pupils feel confident. - Get some pupils to say the words and sentences in front of the class. - Correct mistakes of pronunciation. Activity 2: Listen and circle a or b. Then ask and answer - Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the recording, circle a or b to complete the sentences. - Give them a few seconds to read the sentences in silence and guess the words to fill the gaps. - Play the recording twice for pupils to listen, circle a or b. - Play the recording again for pupils to listen and check. - - Play the recording again, pausing after each line for pupils to repeat. - Play the recording once more for pupils to repeat the whole chant, show pupils how to chant and do the actions - Get pupils to work in pairs to practice chanting and doing the action. - Invite some pairs to say the chant and do actions in front of the class - Give feedback. - Ask the whole class to say the chant and clap along to the rhythm of the chant Activity 4: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1.
