Lesson 2: Part 1, 2, 3 STAGE 1: DESIRED OBJECTIVES/ OUTCOMES A. OBJECTIVES By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: (Cognition, Skill, Attribute, and Competence) 1. Identify the situation for the conversation between Mai and Linda (setting, participants, topics) 2. Ask and answer questions to compare places, using the sentence patterns: Which one is more__, __ or __? ̶ I think __. 3. Studious and obedient students and love their hometown, family and friends. B. LANGUAGE FOCUS 1. Key terms/ Vocabulary beautiful, Ha Long City, Nha Trang / expensive, life in Da Nang, life in Ho Chi Minh City / exciting, life in the city, life in the countryside 2. Key grammatical structure Which one is more__, __ or __? ̶ I think __. C.   2. 1. Answer the questions about the Observation situation for the conversation between Students’ answers Questions & answers Mai and Linda such as setting, participant, topics. Key 2. Questions& answers STAGE 3: LEARNING EXPERIENCES/ LEARNING PLAN Warmer: Greeting and singing - Greet the students. Have them sing the song “Which one is ?”. - Lead into new lesson. - Tell students that they are going to read a dialogue in which students ask and answer questions to compare places. Activity 1: Language input (Activity 1: Look, listen and repeat.) - Have Ss to look at the book on page 66; identify the characters in the pictures and what they are saying. + Who are they? (Mai and Linda) + Where are they? (at school) + What are they talking about? (compare some places). - Play the recording and asks Ss to listen to the tape twice. - Explain the meaning of the new words. - T asks Ss to listen and repeat in chorus three times. - Have Ss listen to the recording as they read the lines in the speech bubbles
  3. - Play the recording again for Ss to repeat the dialogue two times. - Let Ss practice the dialogue in pairs. - Gets some pairs to read it aloud. - Play the recording again for the whole class to repeat each line in the speech. - T elicits the structures by asking Ss to speak out the model sentence: Form: Which one is more __, __ or __? ̶ I think __. Activity 2: Controlled & guided practice Task 1: Controlled practice (Activity 2: Point and say.) - Have sts see the pictures and identify some places in the pictures - T runs through. - T asks Ss to match the pictures with the places using Sach Mem. - T models: T: Which one is more beautiful, Ha Long city or Nha Trang? S: – I think Ha Long city is. - Open-pairs; close-pairs. - Call on some pairs to perform the task at the front of the class. - Have Ss look and describe 4 pictures. - Ask Ss to read aloud 4 pictures. - Ask Ss to practice asking and answering questions to compare some places in the pictures a, b, c and d. - Monitor the activity, check the pronunciation - Some Ss report in front of class. Others observe and give comments if possible. - Make some questions to check Ss’ comprehension of language. - Have the whole class repeat all the phrases to reinforce their pronunciation. - T gives comment. Task 2: Guided practice (Let’s talk) Ask and answer questions to compare some cities/provinces
  4. - Tell the class that they are going to practise asking and answering questions to compare some cities/provinces. Get them to work in groups and use the questions and answers in their books. - Do the task with one student as a model. Put the sentences on the board and do choral and individual repetition. Go around offering help and correcting pronunciation, if necessary. - Select some pairs of students to role-play in front of the class. - Give comment. Activity 3: Wrap -up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (Ask and answer questions to compare places by using the sentence patterns “Which one is more__, __ or __? ̶ I think __.”) 2. What are the core values of the lesson? (Studious and obedient students and love their hometown, family and friends). - Ask Ss to learn by heart vocabulary, structure and prepare for the next lesson. Identify specific information through listening to conversations to circle with one word.

Give the meanings of unfamiliar words if necessary. - Set a time limit for pupils to do the task independently - Ask pupils to read aloud their answers. - Ask other pupils to give feedback. - Give the correct answers. * Key: 1. come 2. city 3 .bigger 4. beautiful 5. than Task 2: Guided practice (Let’s play) The game “Pass the secret” - Tell the class that they are going to play game: Pass the secret!. - Divide pupils into groups of six or seven. - Ask them to line up in rows. Then whisper a sentence to the first pupil in each row.
  7. - The first pupil then whispers the sentence to the second one. The last pupil in the row says aloud the sentence that he/sheheard. + If he/she says the sentence correctly, the group will score one point. + The group with the most points is the winner. Activity 3: Wrap -up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (Read, listen, and circle the letters showing the correct words filling the gapped sentences). 2. What’re the core values of the lesson? (Studious and obedient students and love their hometown, family and friends.). - Prepare for the next lesson. Identify specific information through saying the sentences with the correct intonation. 2. Read, listen and mark the sentence intonation ( or ). Then say the sentences aloud. 3. Say the chant: Which one is more ? 4. Studious and obedient students and love their hometown, family and friends.

Activity 1: Listening practice (Activity 1: Listen and repeat.) - Tell the class that they are going to practice saying question and answer with falling intonation. - Ask pupils to look at the book and listen - Play the recording for pupils to listen again and repeat. - Play it again to do choral repetition until they feel confident.
  9. - Ask pupils to say the questions and answers in pairs. - Call some pairs to practice in front of class. Other’s pupils to give comments. - Gives comments. - Correct mistakes of pronunciation. Activity 2: full controlled & less controlled Task 1: Listening practice (Listen and mark the sentence intonation. Then say the sentences aloud). - Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the recording and mark the sentence intonation. - Play the recording for pupils to listen - Ask pupils to listen again and do the task - Play the recording again for pupils to listen and check. - Give feedback. Task 2: Let’s chant. Which one is more ? - Tell class that they are going to say the chant: Which one is more ? - Play the recording all the way through for pupils to listen and follow in their books. - Play the recording again, pausing after each line for pupils to repeat. - Play the recording once more for pupils to repeat the whole chant. - Put the class into three groups to practice chanting: one chants the questions and the other chants the answers - Get them to practice chanting and doing actions in groups - Invite three groups to say the chant and do actions - Give feedback. - Ask the class to listen again and chant Activity 3: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (Say the sentences with the correct intonation). 2. What’re the core values of the lesson? (Studious and obedient students and love their hometown, family and friends.)
