Lesson 3: Part 1, 2, 3 STAGE 1: DESIRED OBJECTIVES/ OUTCOMES STAGE 1: DESIRED OBJECTIVES/ OUTCOMES A. OBJECTIVESs By the end of the lesson, students will be able to: (Cognition, Skill, Attribute, and Competence) 1. Pronounce two - and - three syllable words with the stress on the first syllables ‘seaside, ‘island, ‘countryside. 2. Identify the specific information from 3 sentences about weekend by circling the correct answers; 3. Perform the chant “Where will you be this weekend ?” in interesting ways, using appropriate and meaningful gestures; B. LANGUAGE FOCUS Key terms/ Vocabulary ‘seaside, ‘island, ‘countryside. Then get the class to sing the song “Baby shark” Activity 1: Pronunciation practice (Activity 1: Listen and repeat on page 35) - Tell pupils that they are going to pronounce the following words: ’seaside, ’ island and ’countryside. - Explain to pupils what word stress is, in Vietnamese, if necessary. (Word stress is the emphasis that you put on a syllable by saying it more loudly.) Tell them that we use the stress mark (‘) to indicate word stress. - Write ’seaside, ’ island and ’countryside with the stress marks on the board. - Play the recording of the sentences and have pupils repeat them, paying attention to the target words and stress. - Do choral and individual repetition of the words and sentences until pupils feel confident. - Get some pupils to say the sentences, while the rest of the class clap at the stressed syllables of the target words. Correct the pronunciation, if necessary. Activity 2: Listening practice (Activity 2: Listen and circle a or b. Then say the sentences aloud page 34) - Have Ss look at the table on page 34 - Tell pupils that they are going to listen to the recording and circle the correct answers. - Give them a few seconds to read the sentences in silence and guess the words to fill the gaps. - Have pupils listen to the recording twice and circle the answers. Go around offering help, if necessary. - Have them swap their answers before checking as a class. Then ask them to read aloud the answers. Key: 1.b 2.a 3.b Activity 3: Chant practice (Activity 3: Let’s chant on page 34) - Show the chart of the chant “Where will you be this weekend?” - Tell pupils that they are going to say the chant “Where will you be this weekend?” - Follow the procedure in teaching the unit components in Introduction. - Have them read the chant and check comprehension. - Play the recording a few times for pupils to do choral and individual repetition. - Show them how to chant and do actions. Call two groups to give a demonstration. - Get groups to sit opposite of each other and practice chanting and doing actions. Go around offering help, if necessary. - Call two groups to the front of the class to chant and do actions. The rest of the class claps along to the rhythm. Activity 4: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (Practice two and three -syllable words with the stress on the first syllable: 'city, 'village, 'mountains and 'tower.) 2. What’re the core values of the lesson? ( Show pride and love to your hometown and respect to others.)

Activity 1: Reading and writing practice Read and complete (Activity 4 on page 35): - Tell the class that they are going to read a passage about Mai and then complete the table. - Have Ss read the passage and then have a look at the table.Then ask them to read the passage again and look for the information needed to complete the table. - Give Ss time to do the task independently. - Monitor the activity and offer help when necessary. - Get them to swap their answers before checking as a class. Monitor the activity and offer help, if necessary. - Remind them to write the first letter of each sentence and put commas and full stops at the appropriate places. - Get them to swap and read their writing in pairs before inviting two or three pupils to read their answers aloud.
- 5 Key: Answers vary Activity 2: Guided practice (Project on page 35) - Tell Ss that they are going to interview their classmates about where they will go and what they will do next weekend. - Each student selects three classmates to interview and take notes. - When they finish interviewing, select three or four Ss to report the results of their interviews to the class. *Colour the stars - Have the class read the statements and check their comprehension - Give the time to colour the star and invite a few pupils to read the statement aloud - Give further support to pupils who find it difficult to achieve certain objectives. - Give feedback. Activity 3: Wrap-up & Assignments - Ask students to answer the following questions: 1. What have you learnt from the lesson today? (Practice reading and writing more.) 2. What’re the core values of the lesson? (Be confident in communicating with friends/ teachers). - Remind students to prepare for the next lesson. D. Then get the class to sing the song “hello summer song - Lead into the new lesson. Activity 1. Listening practice Task 1. Listen and tick Ask Ss to open their Ss’ book on page 36 and tell them the listening purpose. You’re going to listen to two different dialogues. Listen to each dialogue and tick the appropriate picture. Give them a few seconds to look at the pictures. Play the recording twice: once for Ss to listen all the way through and once for them to do the task. Pause after each part for Ss to have time to tick the correct pictures. Get Ss to correct their answers in pairs. Then ask some Ss to report the answers to the class. Task 2. Listen and number Ask Ss to open their Ss’ book on page 36 and tell them the listening purpose. You’re going to listen to four dialogues and number them. Listen to each dialogue and number the pictures in the order you hear. Point to each picture and elicit Ssi Answers. Do the first example with Ss.
- 7 Play the recording twice: once for Ss to listen all the way through and once for them to do the task. Pause after each part for Ss to have time to select and number the pictures. Get Ss to correct their answers in pairs. Then ask some Ss to report the answers to the class. KEYS: 1.c, 2.d, 3.a 4.b. Task 3. Listen and tick Yes (Y) or No (N) Tell Ss that they are going to listen to two dialogues and tick Yes or No. Give them a few seconds to read the statements and guess the answers. Play the recording twice: once for Ss to listen all the way through and once for them to do the task. Pause after each part for Ss to have time to select and tick the boxes.
